Make a presentation that Deliver

First of all, what is an e-document and why is it important…! Well simply it is a document in digital form; it can be a word file, spread sheet, pdf, presentation etc. -That’s the formats you can choose to deliver the message in your mind. Wondering which one of these formats are the most suited for you? It completely depends on the type of data you have and the audience you are targeting. The kind of data you can put it in an e-doc includes-Books, Your school works, Guides/How-to/DIY/Manual, Creative writings, Magazines/Newspapers, Presentations, Brochures/Catalogs, Recipes/menu, Comics and Research papers. Books can be further classified into- Fiction & Literature, Religion, Business, History, Travel, Self-help, Body mind and Spirit…- the list never ends.

If there is no difference between the doc and e-doc then why should someone prefer e-doc. The fact is we are in digital era everything is now digitalized including reading and writing. The world prefers to read an e-book over the real ones. So to get the reach you have to move with the trend.

Before uploading and publishing the content you have there are some points you should remember Regardless of your type of doc you have and the format you decide to go with. The most important and the very basic one is
the cover page-when used properly it helps the audience to judge the content inside. So don’t leave your cover page in default template; White paper with tittle on the center in black font color and never use the normal fonts like Arial, Times New Roman etc. Go for a catchy font style, color and texture that match the whole theme of your content. But there is a problem- most of the docs sharing sites only accept default fonts. Hey don’t worry there is a simple solution; design your cover page as an image in software like Photoshop, when importing the picture to your doc don’t forgot to give the tittle as alt text and other details as description .

                Once you have created that first impression on the audience it’s time to get into the content, if you have a long content with lot of headings or chapters then it’s advisable to use index page which will help readers to easily find specific details and navigate through the content and if it’s a literature writing the best practice is to provide preface and about the author before the actual writing begins.

                Now let’s get into the big one- the content. Readers appreciate well researched and well written contents. You will get good exposure if your writing is unique and fresh and if you use a good flow to tell the thing then it will be spreading in the web like wild fire. The beginning the flow and the ending of the presentation should be interesting.

Here are some tips for a flawless opening

  •  Even if are trying to present a case study, don’t just write “when I did this I found that” stuffs, present it in a flow, like a story. If you are just pointing the facts then the audience is going to react in agree or disagree manner. To make things simple imagine that you are presenting your idea as a film.
  • It’s a weird fact that Rock stars like presentation get less attention when compared to a presentation that uses silence. Instead of saying something straight forward split that idea into many and say a few first and be quite for some time and say the next part of it. This method will help to increase the anxiety of the reader. But don’t drag it too much; make sure you keep the phase too.
  • Invite the reader to the future and make them look back to the past. For example- Retrospective:  “2 years back the percentage of e-book readers was at 9 and now its 83(USA statistics)” Prospective: “By 2030 learning a second language will be no longer necessary”. This can make readers to think a little more and they will get more connected to the subject.
  • Use famous quotes of a great personality. Something like this will work “If there's a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it.” -Toni Morrison. Don’t throw in any random quotes in, pick the best suited for the idea you want to express.


The body of the content is completely on your hands; make use of images, graphs, diagrams, info graphics etc. to communicate better with the audience. Make it as simple as you can.

Here are some tips to wind-up your story.

  • Try to end it where it started. There are many examples in Hollywood movies which successfully used this technique. “Megamind” is my favourite on that, when the movie starts the hero is falling down from the sky and the story goes on like how he ended up in that situation. So circling back to the start is a great way to end.
  • Repeat the important stuffs, So that the audience can recall and engage the things those you want to be highlighted. And at the end of reading don’t just leave them, they have spent time to read your stuffs to the end and what’s the use if they simply leave so offer them something else to read related to your topic or ask for reviews and doubts.
  • It’s always the first step is the hardest one so if you can inspire your audience and make them to take that first step then it’s great…. There are no right and wrongs here, you can always experiment and explore with different methods. What works that works…!
